We have access to military Service Records, Pension records, Medal Roll Index Cards etc from the First World War and earlier. We have very specialist knowledge in this area and can assist in some of the most complex requirements. The information that we normally require would be:
- Full name
- Service number and unit (if known)
- Date and place of birth (if known)
Quite a number of WW1 service records for ranks other than officers were destroyed during a 1940 air raid but if your ancestor's record, survived then we can access it. However not all is lost and we can also use the British Commonwealth War Graves Registers. We have on occasions when we indentify the regiment is search for personal diaries of men who may have served with your family member.
If your ancestor was Army, Navy or Air Force – which was known as the ‘Fleet Air Arm’, at that time – then we can access their war record for details on where they served length of service etc. If they were one of the fallen then we can access their war grave records.
We also have access to many other military records including the Battle of Waterloo, Boer War etc.
As far as the Second World War is concerned, personnel records are closed for 75 years, except to next of kin who can access them directly through the MOD. We can supply application forms for this purpose and would be happy to discuss this with you in more detail.
